Building a High-Performing Life Sciences Supply Chain Team

07/18/2024

Behind the seamless flow of operations in a pharmaceutical supply chain is a workforce that is agile, knowledgeable, and deeply committed. Having a high-performing supply chain team that keeps the pulse of firms running is therefore critical to ensuring the seamless delivery of life-saving products. However, industry skills gaps are widening, a staggering 80% of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities are struggling with skills mismatches. Recruiting staff is a challenge, for companies must creatively evaluate how to build new and existing talent to promote continuous growth and lasting value.

Building a strategic workforce requires a re-imagining of what the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector looks like. Yulia Celeteria, Head of Logistics from EarlyHealthGroup, Frank Binder, Corporate Officer & Global Head of Supply Chain Management from Santen, and Yingming Yue, VP of Operations and Supply Chain APAC from Lotus Pharmaceutical, share their insights on:

  • Implementing training programs for employees
  • Provide them with greater exposure to different departments across the organisation
  • Individual development programmes (IDPs) provide employees visibility into opportunities for growth, boosting their engagement and satisfaction rates, incentivising them to improve further and fortifying a culture of progress
  • Every supply chain leader must be a teacher – they must develop an inherent understanding of their team and groom them through coaching and mentorship programmes!
  • This helps us to extract the most value out of collaborating with others – knowledge sharing can happen cross-functionally within the supply chain ecosystem!
  • Conduct yearly performance cycles to understand employees’ growth ambitions and assign projects to challenge them in going beyond their limits
